honestly idk if i'd change the tubes in the preamp. the power amp deff, put some el-34s but preamp is under estimate and is close to perfect

Having done a wee bit of research , and I am definitely not a tube expert, it kind of looks like there's a limited number of options out there for 12AX7 replacements.

here's a rundown of some options:

I did mesa lately for the very same q. And here is the answer :)

The rear view being:
--v5 v3 v1-
-v6 v4 v2--

V1-A& B = Channel 1 Input & Gain
V2-A = Channel 1 Gain
V2-B = Channel 2 Input
V3-A& B = Channel 2 Gain
V4-A& B = Channel 2 Gain & Tone Controls
V-5A& B = Record Out Left & Right
V-6A& B = Main Out Left & Right

Hey Man, Thanks for that input!!! I did re-tube my Mic Preamp, replace those stock EH with Tung-sol ecc83 and Mullards ecc81 , Whoa!! what a big differences..hopefully I can get the same improvement w/ my Recto Pre's.. Now back on my tube research, thanks again :p

btw.
V1 and V2 are beside the guitar input right?

That s right !

I like a 12AY7 in v1 for a bit more headroom on the clean channel. I like Chinese 12AX7 everywhere else, much better, smoother than the Russians that were stock on mine.
