I'm new to the boogie board. I've got a recto-pre that suddenly stopped working. The power light goes on when it is turned on, but nothing else happens.

I live in Japan, and the amp was purchased through official channels here, so I took it down to my local guitar shop and they sent it off to whoever does boogie's repairs in Japan. It came back a couple months later with the message that they don't repair the recto-pre in Japan anymore. There was a piece of paper with the amp that said that the power supply or power transformer needed to be replaced.

I contacted MESA/Boogie in the US to see if anything could be done, and heard back that they were contacting their international division about it and would be back in touch with me ASAP...that was in early July.

Has anyone had this kind of problem with MESA? Is this SOP or am I getting "special treatment?" I've used boogie for quite a while, but I hadn't had any problem with their gear so this was my first time to deal with them about problems.

In the worst case scenario and I can't get MESA to fix the preamp, is there anywhere I can pick up a power supply or transformer for the amp so I can have a local tube amp specialist fix it for me.

I am in Japan. Where are you located? I am in Kanagawa Prefecture near Machida/ Sagami Ono. I could take a look at it and will fix it for free (just the cost of parts) if you want. I am studying to be an electrical engineer that's why I would not feel right charging you. I doubt the power tranny went bad; that sounds very silly. You can email me at [email protected] if you want.

I sent another message to MESA asking why I hadn't heard back from them, and evidently they HAD responded very soon afterwards, but the message hadn't reached me. Contrary to what the local guitar shop told me, Kanda Shokai, the distributor that handles MESA gear, can and will fix the RectoPre. I have no idea what the problem was, but it looks like several people are on it now, and that I will have my RectoPre back in working condition soon.

Greg, I appreciate your kind offer. I'm in Korea town in Osaka.

I'll post a follow-up to let the list know how MESA treats its users in Japan.

If they told they can't fix the pre maybe they are saying they are incapable? Take it to someone who is confident with it. Tube amp stuff is pretty simple electronically so it shouldn't be hard to diagnose and fix. Good luck. If you need any assistance let me know.
