This weekend, I played a DR2010 through the fitting 4x12. I was surprised that it sounded nothing like I was used from my bandmates Rectifier 2x12 cabinet.

I probably test it again with my guitar and my DR (running EL34's), but still wondering ... does the 2x12 sound so different than the 4x12 or am I mistaken ... ?

My 2x12 and 4x12 (slant) sound more or less the same. The biggest difference I notice is that the 4x12 has a little more mids and the 2x12 is a little more scooped.

(That above is with the 2x12 tilted up at the same angle as the 4x12 so I could do some honest comparisons).

If you're comparing a slant 4x12 to a horizontal 2x12 laying flat then the difference would sound more significant.

I find just the opposite, the 2x12 has more mid's, less volume usually means more mids, where more volume usually means more bass.

Either way, it will sound different. I prefer the 4x12.
