I've been playing guitar for years, just messin around but never attempted to record....What's an EASY and fairly INEXPENSIVE way to record two guitars playing out of a couple of combo amps (no direct out on the amps...)

Hope this is enough info, thanks in advance for any suggestions....

I would recommend a standalone multitracker rather than using PC based software because you mentioned easy/cheap.

Something along the lines of a Zoom MRS-4 is a great wee unit (had one myself).

Very small and easy to use, they record onto flash cards, have on board effects and you can overdub other guitars etc.And with being digital they are easy to edit with as well.

You can get surprisingly good results from a small and inexpensive multitracker all you really need with one is a drum machine although slightly more expensive ones have a drum machine and usually a bass machine inbuilt.

You obviously will need a couple of mics but you probably have one if you have been playing for years.

You should be able to pick one up for well under $100.

Great thanks!

Actually, I don't have a mic, I'd have to buy one as well, any recommendations there?

There is the obvious SM-57 I guess everyone would say this is a good place to start and they are inexpensive.

Chris Tsangarides the legendary metal producer who has done everyone from Anthrax to Yngwie has been raving about the T-Bone RM700.
They can be had here in the uk for about £70 probably a lot less in the States.
I plan to get one myself.

There are Im sure a lot of folks on here that can advise on mics as Im not really that clued up on them but a decent one can be had for not a lot of cash.

Good luck and let me know what you settle on.
