I thought that the concept was really cool as well. I'm interested to hear if anyone has tried them, because no dealers around my area carry Randall.

I actually owned the RM100 combo for awhile before I got into the Boogie habit. It was a very cool amp. It came loaded with the EL34L, but I never got a chance to open her up loud enough to hear what they could really do. That's the main reason I sold it.

I had the Blackface, Plexi, Recto, Ultra, and XTC modules. Having never owned any of the originals, I cant't do a comparison, but I know that the Blackface was my favorite - beautiful clean sound! The Recto had that razor sharp gain, but it was nice and tight. The XTC was another favorite, very rich sound with great harmonics. The Ultra was very noisy and the Plexi was ok.

I didn't have it long enough to try the Lynch modules.

Definitely great at getting very different tones in one easy package. I think you can even have different pairs of tubes in at the same time for different sounds. The effects loops were nice as well.

I kinda miss it and I'm actually considering getting another, just to get some different tones.

One of my local dealers has allowed me to spend time with both the standard and Lychbox versions and they do sound great. My favorite modules are the SL+, Brahma, Super V, MR Scary. The concept is interesting and they are built very well. My only concern is longevity (I want to see these on the market for a few more years). If I didn't have enough amps, I might consider one....

They've actually been around for 6 or 7 years according to a dealer yesterday. The guitar player for King's X has played them for many years according to him. Not sure how long they've been in production.

I saw one last week and passed on trying it. After talking to this guy he peaked my interest. I called the shop that had it and it was gone.

I browsed the MTS forum (anybody else know that it's a sister to this one?) and browsed the MTS literature on Randall's web site. Here's what I didn't like...

1) It seems like the Recto module has under gone 3 changes.
2) Sounds like users modify the modules.
3) The sound clips on the site all sound the same. Some even crappy!
4) Sounds like they are doing away with the Brown
5) The ficking thing is heavy!

I'd be interested to hear on this board who can compare the Brown, Treadplate, XTC, Tweed, and Blackface to the actual amps to see if this amp is worth giving up my DR for.

I had one and I really wanted to like it...The module concept is pretty cool, the Blackface was good, as was the SL+, but the recto was close but not that great, I even had the tite mod done to it. The Ultra module just plain sucked. I liked the fact that you could use just about any power tube and that you could bias it yourself. The thing I didn't like is that it's not made in the USA, and when I got mine, the power transformer was leaning on one side, upon closer inspection, one of the mounting legs was bent on it. I pulled the amp out of the head box to take a peak, and noticed several of the nuts were very loose, like they were hand tightened. I had to torque down every nut and bolt on that head, they were all loose. And for the size transformers it had ( huge) I would have thought it would be louder. Anyway, just my opinion and two cents.

That's a really cool concept but it totally disregards the effect that the rest of the amp has on tone. Personally, I'd prefer to just have an amp that has a few really good tones in it. I'd like to give one a try but I don't think I'd like it.

Yeah, made in China, so definitely not the same quality as a Mesa. Come to think of it, the vinyl kept coming off the back panel on my combo, like they didn't use enough glue or something.

It's still a cool idea and if you've got the dough, I say try the Randall, and if you like it, get the Egnater, as I believe the quality is better. Plus the Egnater modules have 2 channels on each module!

Not made in Chine but at the Eden plant in Minn.

New Hammett modules where just released this week.
