Randall RM100 tubes

My buddy has a Randall RM100 that he absolutely loves. Thing is, they're run with EL34s. If he were to swap in some 6L6s, would he get more of the Mesa drive and power, or would it affect its playability negatively?

Any one have any experience with these or other similar amps/tubes?

You can try quite a few different tubes with the Randall. It is a matter of taste. The 6L6's are not quite as bright as the EL34's, but are fuller sounding. The manual explains how to bias for each tube type. Have fun experimenting.

Since the RMS uses different modules I think think each module would benefit from different tube types. The Black Face, Tread Plate, Clean, and Tweed would benefit from 6L6's. The Brown, SL, SL+ would benefit from EL34's. I base this on the fact that each of the platforms modeled used these tubes oringinally in the power section.
