I now have set of 4 used 6L6s in my Mark IV (they sound great) and I dunno know how many miles they have in odometer. Should I use them as long as they show signs of a trouble or simply go and buy a new set and use these as a spare?

I just saw your other post. Welcome to the Boogie Board!!

I think that's what I would do. I'd pretty much use them as backups. It's always a good idea to have a set of "known good" tubes as a backup at a gig.

Tks Robin mucho for your quick response! I am glad to be a member of this forum!

Let me rephrase my question: I have almost new 2xEL34 + 2x6L6 combo and similar used extra set here. Would you still recommend me to buy a new 4x6L6 set or to have the current used tubes in my amp now and have one of these other combo sets as a spare at gigs?

Thanks again!

I'm still a bit confused. It sounds like you have a set of Integrated Quads (2xEL34 and 2x 6L6) installed in the amp. You also have a second set of Integrated Quads as a standby? If that's the case, I'd leave the ones you have installed in the amp there for now.

If you want to check out what the difference would be if you went all EL-34 or all 6L6, you could do that with the ones you have. I would just make sure that you keep them paired with their current mates.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If the current tubes are good leave them alone.

You can't use four EL34's in a Mark IV. They can only be used in the two end sockets along with a pair of 6L6's in the inner two sockets.

When I recently got the amp it had 6L6/EL34 combo in it (almost new set) and as a spare I got from the seller a used 6L6/EL34 combo and a few additional used 6L6s.

I wanted to test the amp with 6L6s so I put four similarly coded Mesa 6L6s (blue) in and I like the sound better than with a 6L6/EL34 combo.

So in addition to 4x6L6s in the amp now I now have almost new 6L6/EL34 combo plus a used 6L6/EL34 combo as spares....let's make this super clear, LOL!!

t0aj15, wise words....I'll leave the 6L6 set in the amp for now and take one of the combos as a spare for gig. When the set fails I'll then buy a new JJ 4x6L6 set.
