Per the tube spec chart at the Mesa site

5Y3 - Stock in: Lone Star Special
5U4G - Substitute in: ... & Lone Star
5U4GB - Stock in: ... & Lone Star

My LSS has the original 5Y3 which is, well, the 5Y3. I would imagine I could substitute either of the others (5U4GB is actually listed as stock for Lone Star which is confusing; does this mean LSC?)

Questions:
-I can't find the 5Y3 on the Mesa site; does anybody know where to buy one?
-Has anybody tried either the 5U4G or 5U4GB instead? Were they ok?

Thanks as always

According to Mesa you can only use the 5Y3 in the LSS.
I have a NOS Jan Phillips in mine. If that tube shorts out and damages the amp, Mesa will not cover the damage.
I have gone through two Mesa 5Y3's so I am not worried.

My 5Y3 tube has gone out twice in the last year. I got new ones from Mesa boogie directly but I wonder why the tubes go out so quickly. Is it an issue with the tubes or the amp? Are there other brands that will last longer?

eweise, I can't find the 5Y3 listed on the Mesa web site; did you call them directly to order it?

Actually, both times it went out they sent me a new one for free. My amp is fairly new and although tubes aren't covered under warranty, I guess they have been feeling charitable since that particular tube keeps going out with the LSS.

My Head is new as well. I have had two got out and Mesa snet me new ones. The tubes have a six month warranty. I also have a NOS Jan Phillips I bought from Doug's tubes.

Per conversation with Mike Taylor at Mesa:

-Only the 5Y3 should be used in LSS; not the 5U4G or 5U4GB
-LSC should not use the 5Y3; it should use 5U4G
-5Y3 isn't available on online store (don't know why)
-You can order 5Y3 by calling Mesa

My LSS came with a Mesa stamped JAN NOS Phillips 5Y3. At the two year mark, I retubed and used a regular Mesa 5Y3. That one shorted within about 9 months.

Mesa sent me another one, even though out of warranty, but I'm keeping it as a spare. I put the Mesa stamped NOS back in--no problems so far.

When I talked to the Mesa tech, he told me they don't have any more of the JAN NOS Phillips 5Y3's.
