Howdy guys,

So Im using my G-major's relay switch to change channels on my Quad and it works fine for the most part but Im noticing a blurring when switching from high gain to clean tones, its like Im hearing both channels at once for about 1 second or less.

I have taken the G major 2 out of the signal path and it does the same thing so I know that is not causing an issue. If I turn down the Input gain on the Quad to about 5 the issue seems to disappear but its quite noticeable when set higher. Ideally I'd like to have my Input level set high and not have this problem.

So Im wondering if this is a common issue with the Quad or if its a problem with the G-majors relay switch not working 100% with the Quad?

Im looking at the following options to solve the issue. ( I also need a midi controller)

Behringer fcb1010 (has amp switching)
Proel MS32 (has amp switching)
Voodoo Labs Control Switcher with midi-mate controller
GCX Switcher with midi-mate controller

Any info and/or experiences would be great!

Thanks

Shane

I would get a cheap tip ground switch with chord (most guitar amp orientated music stores will have them and test it out further.
I get no blurring with mine

Hey Dbone,

Thanks for the reply, one option could be a Boss FS-6 footswitch. May I ask what you are using to switch channels on your Quad? Can you confirm no blurring/instant change with your input gain on 10 and lead drive 10 then switch to clean, just as an extreme case.

Thanks

Shane

Hi Shane I'm using a voodoo labs GCX switcher with voodoo lab ground control.
One GCX has 8 loops so it covers the quad, on the quad I'm using the 4 channel switches and the 2 eq switches, the voodoo labs ground control will control up to 4 GCX switchers for 32 loops switching functions and also your midi Fx as well, pretty easy to set up. Found mine on craigs list.
So are you refering to switching between clean and lead one channel 1 MKII
Or jumping from clean channel 1 MKII to channel 2 lead MkIII. Or both?
Either way one second seems like pretty long time to me.
I'll play around with mine and get back to ya.
I'm assuming you don't have the original FU-2 footpedal to test against?

Howdy,

It happens on both channels identically and not just one channel, which is probably a good thing. Im hoping it's a problem with the G-major's relay and not the Quad. A better way to describe it, is that the gained channel fades into the clean channel.

Sorry no FU-2 unfortunately.

Thanks for your help.

So, you have plugged it into each of the different switching jacks and you are experiencing the same problem each time you move it to a different jack. I would switch out the cable and repeat the test and if it's still happening it might be the G-major 2.
Doesn't that unit have 2 switching jacks if so are they both doing the same thing?
You could test it with a meter but you could also short out male cable end and have some one plug iinto the switching jack while you are playing and set what happens.

Howdy,

Correct, it doesn't matter which jacks are being used eg: Lead 1 into Rhy 2 or Lead 2 into Rhy 1. The G major 2 only has one TRS Relay switch. Im waiting for a cheap Behringer FCB1010 to come along then I'll know whats up.

If you have tried the Quad with the G-major completely disconnected and the problem persists when manually switching channels, it may be a bad LDR in the quad. That can cause channel bleed and delay when switching.

Aww dont say that Sonic  I was hoping for an easy fix

I have read about LDR's before, I'll whip out my multimeter and see if I can test them somehow. If you have any more info on LDR's I would appreciate it! My biggest problem might be sourcing the parts.

Cheers

Shane
