has a red 'R' on the back( red stripe i assume?), to the right of M.B.'s sig...simuclass/reverb/GEQ..every knob is push pull, front has full/half power, geq auto/in, on/standby, on/off...no R2 mod

Mesa STR430 tubes on outer sockets, 5881s in the middle I believe..serial number 27,XXX..no pics yet, and i havent seen the guts so im not sure about the transformer or anything..they want 850

ah ok the guy thought it was a green but wasn't sure..how do green stripes compare to most? and was your III mint? cuz besides the insides I can't see, the whole thing looks like it came from a time capsule..i was thinkin of offering 700 cash

Be sure to try the STR430s on the inside, and the 5881s on the Class A sockets, you may get a tad bit more clean headroom, if you like that sort of thing. You can be 99.999% sure the Full/Half Power means: switch up = Simul-Class = 85 watts (Green Stripe), 75 watts (Blue Stripe), and switch down = Class A = 25 watts (Green), 15 watts (Blue).
On the Green Stripe compared to other stripes, the outer sockets are wired pentode rather then triode, so that's why the 10 more watts and cleaner cleans. :D

No, only 99.999%

850 for a loaded clean green is not crazy high, if you can check it out in person that's actually pretty fair. Mark III prices are all over the map, you can always find someone on CL somewhere who's asking 500 and some other dude in a different town asking 1200.

Pretty damn clean and a long chassis. I don't mean to be an ass, but every MK III I have seen locally for the last few years was listed at Sam Ash or GC
in the $400-600 range. Other than the Green Stripe, which I loved tonally the only other III I really wanted was a Red at a guitar show, but the *******
wanted $1200 and not a penny less. I bet he still has it. Some sellers and dealers have more of a hoarding tendency than the good sense to sell the amp
and make a profit.

Think I paid 950 shipped for a mint fully loaded blue stripe with all original paperwork (receipts, manual, catalogs, ect.) all 3 original pedals, and speaker cables. Anything in that range seems like a good deal to me. I would never offer mine out for less than that IF I was to ever sell it.

Green stripe was the last revision. From experience, the only big difference is a tiny bit more clean headroom (but less difference than a tube change would make) and R2 is very Marshall-y with more gain and less lows than the earlier IIIs.

Don't believe most of the stripe hype, outside of the R2 channel there is no difference that anyone would hear on an actual recording or in a live mix. I have to admit I couldn't tell the R1 or lead channels of my own IIIs apart solo'ed on a blind A/B.

Yeah man, different story over on this side.

Comparing both of my IIIs (red & purple ), the tonal character of both amps are quite different using both of the same sets of 12AX7s and 6L6/EL34s. The red is alot hotter sounding, more modern..while the purple is smoother all around.

Prices can be all over the place.

I have owned a Non EQ /60 Watt Blue Stripe (Paid $495), Fully Loaded Red Stripe (Paid $799), and 60/100 Black Dot (Paid $900).

Favorite of all 3 was the 60 Watt Blue Stripe!!!

Somewhat limited, but pure tone. That is why I like my Non EQ /60 Watt C+ so much!

Mark III's are pretty awesome. I would probably get a loaded one to run w/ my C+ though. :D

Paid $690 shipped for my red stripe combo. EV12L, Simul-class, reverb, shockmount, GEQ.

It is pretty beat up, came with bad tubes, reverb doesnt work. Had some STR-430's & GT-E34L's layin' around & it sounds pretty good. Haven't had the chance to crank it.

Just did the C27 mod and the lead channel sounds better. Gonna order the caps and do the C30 & C516 mods.
