On my RKII in channel 3, the Raw and Vintage mode have a very noticeable sweep to the presence knob, and in Modern mode, the difference is very slight on the whole range.

Similarly, in channel 4, Raw and Vintage have a very less noticeable sweep until about 3:00 on the presence control (and it gets super bright afterwards), whereas Modern has a noticable sweep throughout the entire range.

In other words, channel 3 vintage/raw is brighter than channel 4 vintage/raw with every knob set to noon, but in modern mode, channel 4 is brighter than channel 3 (which is how it should be). Is that normal? Could this be a loose wire, or is that just the nature of the different potentiometer value? I just had my amp shipped back from Mesa for something else and I fear a wire may have been knocked around, or something. I have a feeling that's merely how the potentiometer sweep works, but I thought I'd look for other input before I go writing emails to techs.

my roadster does the EXACT same thing i just noticed it recently i would say that its part of design of both the RK ii and roadster seeing as the build is so similar. I was having problems balancing it with CH3 being in modern and CH4 being in raw but i switched it and now it seems to balance much better.

Yeah, I don't think it's an issue. I was just making sure since my amp has traveled 5000 miles in a little more than a month.

I just noticed the same thing on my Rectoverb combo the other day. On the modern mode the presence dial seems functional throughout but when I'm on the vintage mode it doesn't make any difference until 4:30 on the dial.

Hmm yeah my Rectoverb Combo does the same thing pretty much.. also on the modern channel too after 4:30 it gets REALLY bright all of of a sudden... I also read somewhere that changing the mid POT to a 25k Audio would give a better control over the midrange spectrum. Any advice?

My thread on doing just that at the top of this forum section might help you.

Well, the presence pot tapers for channel 3 and 4 are different to one another. I would have thought that was the reason it was different...
