I think I have asked this question before, but I'm not sure so try and bear with me.

Is it normal for the amp to sound muddy, when the presence control on the amp is set to zero, regardless of how loud the amp is turned up?

Honestly.....some rectos get muddy with the presence dumped and some don't. My triple doesn't.....my buddy's triple does.

What kind of speakers, guitar, pickups, and cab are you using?

Are you ever going to actually post a sound clip so people can determine whether there is something wrong with your amp or are you going to continually ask the same questions?

You might have answers to your own questions by now if you spent more time with your amp than posting the same questions on here over and over.

The clips will be up soon, but first I need to find a good recording device so that I can capture the right sound coming from amp.

I have tried recoding some clips of the amp using a recoding program on my Mac called iMovie, but that sounds awful for amp recordings.

Any suggestions

The program isnt what determins the recording sound. Windows audio recorder, pro tools, cubase, that will all sound the same when using the same gear.

A good mic and preamp will be important in capturing your amp. A sm57/i5 are great for only $100 and are kind of the goto mic for recording a lot of different instruments. There are a lot of interfaces with 1 or 2 preamps built in that also be had for around $100. From there its micing technique. Moving a mic around a speaker can drastically change what is being recorded, making it too trebly, too bassy and so on. So find the spot that best captures your tone.

But for cheap, your amp as an fxloop and a slave out. You can use either of those to record your preamp tone. Your preamp tone by itself will sound horrible. But if you use a program like Kefir or Voxengo Boogex and load a decent free impulse, you end up with a great recording of your amp without the hassle of mics, preamps and all that.

Good luck. Google is your friend.

I just finished playing my recto for a few hours. Some post they use less gain, more gain, more mids, less bass, high presence, dimed gain, high master volume, scooped mids, dimed mids, maxed treble, EL34 tubes, 6L6, NOS tubes only, JJ's are crap, EH tubes rule, playing with red shoes only.... ad infinitum.. 8) I am going thru a less bass more mid phase with it, playing an old Ibanez 540 early 90s, gain almost dimed and turning back the guitar volume a tad and then back up for more sizzle. It is pretty hard to get a bad sound out of the amp if you use common sense. Exploring what the amp will do is relaxing if you don't take it too serious.

For as much money as the amp costs, you could take it to a music store and get someone experienced with a RECTO to show you a few typical set ups and explain how the gain/tone/volume all work together. From the questions you have, getting a good understanding of the amp would be a suitable starting point. First step in not being a RECTO noob. Not a bad thing. I'm a tube noob, but learning. One trip with you amp to the music store will answer 9 months of questions on this forum. Unless you just like the conversations....... That's cool too.

Get an SM57 and try to record directly into your soundcard. Depending on your soundcard this may sound grand or sound terrible (more terrible than your actual tone... ). If it sounds bad get an external usb audio interface and you should be good to go.

how exactly can I use my amp as a fx loop and slave out?

I never really understood what the slave out control is used for on the my Recto?

i notice the amp gets fizzy with the presence on at decent volumes...thats why i turn mine totally off..

Well is it normal for some Recto's to sound amp muddy with the presence knob at zero, regardless of how loud there cranked?
