I posted this as a reply to a Formula Pre topic, but thought it was worth it's own thread.

For anyone struggling with muddy tone/low volume from a preamp like the Formula or Recto, even to a lesser extent the Tri-Axis:

I just discovered how *crucial* impedance matching is for the Formula and the Recto Pre. IME the Formula wants to see at least 100k from the main outputs or the tone is muddy. Most pro processors seem to be in the 25k range for their unbalanced inputs, the G-Major even lower(!!) I fought with this for years and almost sold it. MESA does refer to this lack of output buffering in the manual, but more as it relates to using main and recording outs at the same time. Wish they'd have posted actual specs, so we could make informed decisions about what to hook up.

Oh well, better late than never.
