Hi

I think my preamp tubes are seeking there last days, the bass and dynamics seems to have faded and the amp sounds more birght and thrill.

Im on a bit of a budget , and i like to buy tubes that is also sold here in Denmark, thats means TAD,Tung-sol, JJ, ruby,Eletro harmonix, winged C, or mullard reisue.

I like to start out with 3/4 new tubes for the most critical possitions to see if that brings the amps mojo back , and then later on get some good Nos tubes.

Eny advice on tubes that fit the bill

Sovtek 12AX7WC is a very nice sounding inexpensive tube. Works well in any position. Also, I recently had a NOS JAN Phillips 5751 go microphonic during a gig. A bandmate lent me a Sovtek 12AXLPS to replace in V1 and I noticed *no* difference in tone or gain. A pleasant surprise!

When is the last time you replaced output tubes? This actually sounds more like symptoms of those failing...preamp tubes can last decades (not that they always will in a gigh gain amp, but....).

And if it is a preamp tube(s) it likely is not all of them that went bad. Hate to see you spend a lot of money on these and still have the problem (if it's output tubes).

Either way, good luck! :D

Hi guys

I had the power tubes replaced not long ago, maybe 2 month 2 tung sol 6l6 and 2 mulllard el 34 re isues , the amp sounded very similar to have it did before i change those so the are not the problem IMO.

I found 2 GE nos 12ax7 tubes in my simaul sat 85 amp and the had a huge differnce, espicialy in the P1 (phase inverter ).

so what would be the ideal tube for the phase inverter, my aim is as brutal as it can get
