I think you should look into some fuzz boxes.. silicon transistor based fuzz boxes give that 'industrial grind' that you're looking for in my opinion. Run them on your clean channel open wide! I've had a lot of luck with the clean channel of my recto with lots of different fuzzes (I have 3) and they sound awesome.

It's just the way you're dialing it in if you can't find heavy distortion with your tubes.. solid state sounds so awful dude.. at least in my opinion, you only get that 'one' sound which is much better acheived through an occasional stomp box.

Check out my stiletto with a fuzz box on it.

And some pumpkins grind on the recto's clean channel:

Is that more like what you're talking about?

Sounds like you need an OD pedal.
Try a Maxon OD808 or OD9, gain at 0, level at 10, tone to taste.

that piece was cool man I was wantin to come in with a a lead! Dont mean to bum ya out but I dug the sound. It was nasty and sinister,spitin' venom. Dude keep searchin you'll find it.

Since you mentioned Pantera have you checked out the Dime distotion-double shot. I rocked one at GC and it was brutal.I played it through some weak *** amp . Are you familiar with the song A New Level(Pantera) Dude thats my favorite chug,tight asskickin tone right there.Dime is deeply missed and in my opinion one the last all around greats.I did notice that the Doubleshot could get super tight I wasnt playing a tube amp though.I bet in silicon diode it would knock the block of an elephant!!! If ya got time check one out

Have you ever tried a Peavey 5150?? That was the tightest amp that I've ever played and the most brutal. It definately doesn't have that Rectifier tone to it at all and the cleans pretty much suck worse than the old 2 ch rectos, but if you want that brutal distortion and want to try to stay with a Tube amp, I'd really look at the 5150.

I tried 2 of them at different times, but they just arent for me... the Recto is more versatile IMO. You might try going to HC forums and running a search for "5150 clips" or "5150 clip" and see what you get.

Here's a few 5150 clips I found:

i would consider the Maxon OD808. this is the pedal of choice of the heavy bands that i like. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE use it on the new album through a triple rect. Shadows Fall use it as well.

I agree with the solid state having the better metal sound and played mostly Peavey amps until around 7 or 8 years ago. As good as they sound though they allways seemed to lack the oomph that tube amps can give. It's kinda like a trade off to me I would rather have that power that tubes give me than the total harmonic pleasure of a solid state amp. I have tried so many different set ups through the years and I can finally say that my Triple rec is by far the best, I had racks and combos and marshalls etc.

An amp/set up I wish I never sold though was a Fender blues deville 2X12 (the oldest tweed covered one) I used to play a Boss metal Zone with it and it was just amazing could easily cut through the entire band. The drive channel was horrible for metal but the clean channel was simply magical and had so much head room and power it was nuts for a little 60w combo.

As the others have mentioned I would suggest a pedal in the clean channel and see where that might take you. Another option is a Mesa power amp with a Pod Pro or similar for the pre amp. Line6 actually do a mean job at simulating solid state stuff as well as tube gear.

I am a metal head through and through and it took me a long time to like my Mesa ( I think there are threads on here with me asking loads of questions) but once I figured it out (swapping tubes etc) I fell in love and will never go back to another amp again.

Listen to the difference live....

Solid state amps can acheive great distorted tones but I've noticed when you check out a band live, the solid state amps get lost in the mix. For example; I love Prong (I'm listening to them right now on iTunes) and I've always thought Tommy Victor has had a great tone. He plays solid state Marshalls. It sounds great on a recording but live I have always thought his tone gets lost in the mix....especially when he is playing with another guitar player. I love Prong's sound and the tone Tommy gets, it's just not what I'm after.

I think amps like the 5150/6505, Randalls, and the Krankenstein that try to sound more "tight" like a solid state amp are missing the point. The whole point of a tube amp, in my opinion, is the thick, liquid tone that cuts through the mix like a knife. I still think you can get tight, punchy distorted sounds out of tube amps without compromising attack, tone, crunch, or anything else.

I guess I didn't think of a suggestion I've read in some of the other post??

Istead of boosting or pushing the distortion on your boogie, or selling your Boogie to get a different amp and possibly regretting it later or having to plunk down a big amt of cash for a new amp..... Try a multi function FX footpedal in front of your amp (or in the loop if the loop has been modded to a serial loop).

Something like:
* PODxt Pro
* Vox Tonelab SE
* Boss GT-8, GT-6, ME-50, ect....
* Digitech RP series (I had a RP2000 I ran in front of my old Deluxe and I could get some GREAT heavy tones, but it was hard as hell to tweak that thing).

Or you could find a used Line 6 Spider 2x12 combo pretty cheap (around $300) and still hang on to your Boogie and maybe run them together??? That'd sound pretty tough - The Solid State punch with the Recto Growl. I had one and they work GREAT for thrash and metal type of tones and are pretty powerful for a solid state amp too.

Something I forgot about in my other post is The Tech21 XXL is a pretty neat pedal which has a knob/control that can change the pedal into an overdrive/fuzz/distortion being a rotary knob you can actually choose in between settings. I sold it long before I ever had my Mesa so I have never tried that combo and only sold it because I bought a POD but I would suggest you maybe give that a shot it really is a great pedal.

Kopo... before you go, at least try out the ace... it honestly stomps the **** out of any marshall I've played and my own personal orange amp. Matamp... I've got some bad blood with though they do make killer amps from the sounds of it.

If you're looking for that jcm800 midrange honk/growl, you were definetly barking up the wrong tree with a recto, but definetly give the ace a shot, it's making me sell my other gear.
