My bet is it is the pedal, not the loop that is coloring the tone. Mine is transparent. Try taking the pedal out and just jumping it with a cable from send to return. Also if you have 2 long 20 or 30 foot cables going to and from the pedal, that could make a difference. Good luck.

Also doesn't the Master control dictate the 'effects send' level? If set high it will send a huge signal to the pedal whose input might not like that kind of thing! I have a bit of a problem with my Small Clone but tolerate it.
