with my 2b, i have found that the difference in volume, in lead mode, from master at 4, and master at 10, is very little difference
it ends up being more about the clean headroom, than actual volume.
seems like after you hit about 6 on the lead master, everything from there and up, is just more saturation.
i use a WEBER MASS LITE attenuator, for recording.
i typically drive my VOL 1 at around 7, and the Master 1 at around 5, and the Lead master at around 6.
then, i'm backing off on my treble, backing off on the presence, and going between mid pull and NO mid pull, depending on whether i want a rhythm or solo tone.
the attenuator is backed off pretty hard, pretty high attenuation rate.
i run the signal from the speaker out, to a Palmer pdi-09 FOR RECORDING....
i can bring the attenuation rate down, for more speaker drive, for micing the cab.
EVERYTHING CHANGES..... when you drive the master past about 3.
the whole amp characteristic changes.
it's cool.
if i want super tight, i'll run that master down to about 1, without any attenuation, and drive everything hard and do the hard "V"
if i run the master high, i attenuate hard, and then start pulling everything back- the preamp level, the drive level, treble, presence, mids, bass is on zero, the "V" is often times bypassed.
but i've never felt the amp 'give it up' from driving it ridiculously hard.
