Hello everyone!

I just bought a G-Major 2 and started playing with it last week. I managed to control the channel switching on my 3-Channels Dual Recto Multi-Watt (2011) via my MIDI controller.

There's one problem though. The first 2-3 times I switch channel at the beginning of the jam, I hear a loud "POP" coming from the amp. After that, there's no popping sound for the remaining of the jam... If I take a long break and come back, that problem occurs again... It's like if the amp was not "ready" yet..?

Does anyone else experienced this issue? Is it normal, or can it be harmful for the amp?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

The popping is normal. It's due to a static charge that builds up on the relays and won't hurt the amp. It's usually it's worst when you first power it up then goes away after you cycle the channels a couple of times.

Yes and No. I found that you will get some mild pops the first 2-3 changes right away after taking the amp of standby.

I also noticed that some tubes where horrible for loud pops "LOUD STATIC" type pop when changing channels. It may be your V1 is going. In my trials I found that a weak EHX in V1 will produce these.

Try a tube you know is good in V1 and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try that!

 Calm down with the tube swapping. Every rectifier I've owned and played has popped when entering the high gain channels for the first one or two times. Perfectly normal. Cycle through the channels when on standby to help minimize the pop. Otherwise, jam it up!

Mine does it the first time I power up and switch to channel 2. I kind of like it...I consider it announcing my presence with athority!

Hahaha!! But say that you're at a gig and your amp is miked, does the pop breaks the ears and bones of the audience!? Or is it still tolerable?

Thats what Im getting at. Yes, your amp should have a mild pop or 2 if you try and change channels right away after taking it out of standby.

I had an issue with my preamp tube (not sure if it was V1 or V3) were I would get a extremely loud pop/crackle, as though my speaker wire or input jack was shorting EVERY time I changed channel. When I found the culprit tube the issue was gone.

Not saying thats the solution or that there is an issue, but that was my experience.

Always pop it during sound check...one and done the first time I power up the amp. I use all three channels during a show and there's no noise after the first pop.

Glad I know how to use the search function! Got a 2008 Dual Rec yesterday on trade and it scared the hell out of me she I first changed channels! LOL! Good to know this was a common thing.

I get some sever popping.. 2 channel. only clean mode pops actually, and cycling channels doesnt make it better... thoughts?

I had a triple that did this. And it went away after a few times. I just learned to live with it. I had no idea it was a common occurance.
