Hi there,

If anyone has a picture of the back of their mark IV short head can you please post it? I just bought one and want to compare it.

Thank you,
Rudy

It might be easier to just ask a couple questions then waiting for a picture! haha

The head I purchased was the "short head". When I look at the back of it there is no place to attach the footswitch like I've seen on the combos and wide head.

My question is: Should there be a place to attach the footswitch on the short head?

Thank you,
Rudy

The connection is on the inside.. imagine the cord hanging down like the tubes do... to the left side of the back under the top is the jack for your FSWTCH

It's on the bottom of the chassis next to the power transformer.

Sorry guys - I know where it plugs in... I should have expained my question more carefully

What I'm talking about is taking the actual footswitch itself and attaching it to the amp for storage. My head does not have any place to do this but the footswitch does have little clips on the side.

Thanks,
Rudy

you might consider sending US a picture of the back of your head. that way we can easily figure out whats going on back there

hello rippingrudy,

I could have gotten some shots out to you this morning if my digital camera's batteries weren't dead. It turns out my spares were also dead so I had to recharge them.

Anyways, Boogiebabies has already answered your question but here's a shot of the back of my MK IV A (circa 1992) short head. You can see the clips on either side of the head case.

Which part of Ontario are you from? I'm from Ottawa myself.

Take care Michel

Thanks for the info guys.

I am very close to Niagara Falls - It's funny because I am running the mark IV head with a Thiele as well except I have a Eminence Delta Pro 12A instead of an EV. I used it at rehearsal and it cut like a knife through butter! Awesome.

Regarding the footswitch - I know for sure that it is the right head shell because it has a little plate riveted inside that says its a Mark IV and has pictures of the tube sockets. Where you guys have the clips mine has nothing there - A previous owner must have removed them. Anyone know what they cost to buy them from Mesa?

Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris! so i guess you got it!! was it as good as you thought it woudl be?

I had the same problem. Turns out I had a Mark III head cab at first. I ended up just getting a used Mark IV head cab off e-bay to house the amp. Then I got a combo cabinet off e-bay too.

Nick - It's SICK!!! I did a rehearsal with it last night using only my 1x12 Mesa Thiele cab with an Eminence 400watt Delta pro speaker and it BURRIED the other guitar player (JCM 800). The Mark IV just cuts like a motherf**ker. Not only that, the clean is so friggin nice! The lead channel is just over the top - especially with the EQ kicked it. Total Metallica/Dream Theater/Stryper tone.

Regarding the head shell - there is plate screwed inside of the shell that says it's a Mark IV. I don't think someone would take a Mark III head shell and screw that plate inside it??? Unless they took it out of a combo... could be...

Oh well - doesn't matter. Maybe I'll just install them myself. Then again, there isn't much room inside the head for all the cable from the F/S so I might just leave it as is.

Thanks guys.
Rudy

It seems we follow a trend, I think soon you'll be getting a IIC+ if you follow my mesa logic ( mk III , mk IV, Mk IIC+ ) Sorry to hear about the headshell, the guy told me it was perfect working order, that sneaky guy and you're probably right about the head being once a combo, but hey, just wrap it up and put it ontop of it... you my friend got one hell of a deal !! did you get raped by customs? I did with my new amp, 450$, I bet you wish you had the genz benz right now, because apparently they are the BOMB with mesa amps, anyways welcome back to the boogie family. :)

The Genz Benz was awesome but I just bought a Marshall 4x12 cabinet (The same one I had when I was 18 that I sold a few years ago - I bought it back!!) and a Mesa Recto 2x12 that I just picked up in Toronto today so I'm good for cabs!! LOL

I also bought a Stiletto Deuce about 2 weeks ago so my amp buying and Mesa buying is done for the rest of the year.

Hey man, I think I know who you bought your 2x12 recto off of, a guy named Ian right? wow, the stiletto deuce, whered you pick that one up?

Yeah, I got the recto cab from Ian. Picked it up this evening and after that my wife and I went for dinner on Queen st. at a nice Italian restaurant! perfect.... hahaha

I got the Deuce head from a guy named Art who I sold my Mark III to about a year ago. He gave me an awesome deal (I cut him a good deal for the Mark III) so I'm pretty happy.

The Stiletto does awesome "Marshall" tones so I pretty much have all the bases covered.

The biggest surprise for me so far is R2 on the Mark IV - Everyone says it's no good but to me it is one of the nicest "overdrive" sounds I've ever heard. I guess the secret is the "pull fat" on that one. It cuts soooooo nice in the mix and has more then enough gain for leads.

You asked about customs - they got me for $115 but he sent it to me as a gift with really low value of $100. LOL Total cost to me was around $1600 CAD and the head is mint. I took the chassis out and the inside is fucking pure amp porn!

yeah man, the mk iV is a beast, I thoght he sold it for 1100$ US including shipping? anyways.. the R2 on the MK IV As are the worst, the MK IVBs are the greatest for a light overdrive to a mildly crunchy one. Ian is selling me his rect o verb head, you think it's worth it? I'm layering the iic+ tone with something, and it might as well be the recto because of how different it sounds..

I had the non-reverb version of that head (single recto) for about 1.5 years. There are some awesome sounds in it for sure - I used the "vintage" setting 100% of the time at gigs AND I used it through the G-flex!! hahaha

Just make sure you love the Recto sound before buying.

My Mark IV was a rackmounted amp then was put into a head cabinet by the previous owner. I am pretty sure that he didn't care about if it was Mark IV or Mark III . He didn't have the FU-3 so mounting it didn't matter. He was using the midi octopus instead. When I got my FU-3 I had nowhere to mount it. That was why I bought a Mark IV head cabinet. I have since then bought a combo cabinet also.
