I have a Les Paul Standard Faded with exposed pickups (Burstbuckers) and they look like the poles in them (magnets?) are rusty and/or corroded and I was wondering does this have a big effect on tone?

The poles arent magnets. The magnet is under the coils.

As for the rust...the pickups will work fine.

OKay, yeah its just on the tops of the screws. I thought those might double as poles, thanks for the clear-up. That's too bad, I wanted an excuse to get new pickups!

Yeah, your pickups are going bad. You should go ahead & get new pickups. Then you can send me your burstbuckers...

haha yeah these things are clear, but really maybe its cuz of the amp, dont have as much bite as id like em to. i do set em low though cuz i play hard, it is the screws and the other pole pieces on top that are both rusty

To get more bite from your pups you need to raise 'em up a little! Just wipe the pole pieces with a little WD40 on a cloth to stop them getting worse and clean off any loose rust.

After you get them nice and shiny, place a drop of clear nail polish on the screw/pole to keep this from happening again.
