PI substitution?

I really dont know what the actual purpose of putting a lower gain tube in the PI actually does. But I did go and purchase a few NOS 5751's because I had read on this forum that others were doing it ,, I think they were jan GE 5751's. Although it didnt seem to hurt the sound at all, I really didnt notice any difference at all. I went back to 12ax7's in hte PI.
I will admit I never got around to actually putting one in the v1 spot and decided against trying it because I like my high gain. Who knows though,, if I actually try it I may like it better.
 
I have a JAN 5751 in V1 and in PI. Still more than enough gain available. Seems a little smoother, and you gotta turn the master up more.
