good for 7 days.

all guitars thru a '81 mesa mark2b 60 watt shorthead w/GEQ.
into a Palmer Junction, direct to hard drive.

this is a brand new, completely re-worked version of this new instrumental...

i'm starting to work up my follow up album to the 'Trouble' project, and it will be a mix of instrumental and lyric-format songs.

any last suggestions on this one?

oh yea, what did i change?

i added a really sweet, spacey long delay, to just ONE of the solo tracks at the end slow section.
the other one stays dry...
so you get the call and response, with a very grounded, pure, unaffected guitar, and a super spacey pink floydish affected guitar.
best of both worlds!!
heheh

i also selected a completely different snare, from the Rogers Wood 4.5 x 14-inch to the GMS Picollo 13-inch with mute...
re-eq'd the entire kit;
added more bottom head mic, used a different room reverb on the snare and left the rest of the kit dry;
and new compression settings on the kick, and toms. no compression on the overheads. panned the hi hats a little closer to center.

also, bass guitar eq'd with more high mid cut, going for a rounder tone, that still has the aggressive attack.
slower attack/faster release settings on the compressor.

Exceptional.
Your guitar expressions, are so killer and unique. I'm a big fan of instrumentals and your Road to Tabriz series(?) are great because of their wacky nature. I really enjoyed section at 0:35 and the spacey Floyd-ish ending. Looking forward to your upcoming work. :D

Thanks for sharing.

i hope someone else gives a listen....
it is a vintage boogie, after all..

or, are most of the folks who post original music here, just into way heavy modern?

hm.

i saw this flick 'cloverfield', a couple of weeks back..
and ever since i saw it, i've been wanting to do a heavy sounding tune...

and see, if i can coax a more 'metal' sound out of my old MKIIb.
with the GEQ, and the barber DD, it might be a fun project.
maybe impossible, but fun.

my sound, is more based around a slightly tweaked classic tone, that's why i've always held onto the IIb....
but i love playing thru my bud's triple, and all i need is a good excuse to pick up an Express........LOL

I feel your pain, no one wants to listen to originals I guess :p

well, i'm still on the fence about the opening section...

some folks think it's too intense, too busy, and in some ways, it is.

it was designed that way, but i'm not sure the 'design criteria' is necessarily all that good!
LOL again....

ok, a little background to the song arrangment, so you can get a bit of a visual...

the story:

someone i know, is Iranian (she says 'Persian'), and lives here in america, works here (came here by way of an australian college), pays taxes here, and is a scientist working on cutting edge nanotech stuff.

she is currently on her way to Iran, to visit family after her father passed away, and she couldn't attend the funeral, because of visa issues, homeland security, all that...

not to mention the stress of being considered 'an american' now, and going back to Iran, where the anti-american sentiment is at an all time high! (NOT)

so, the song embodies my idea of her trip...

the first part, is very hectic, because it just isn't coming together....
very stressful...

the middle part is getting there, and getting dialed into the place again, but not wanting to be involved in the religion and politics of the governing powers (her father had been a high ranking army official during the shah's regime).

the last part, is having to leave her homeland, possibly under duress, and come back to her home here... which is a fine home, her husband is waiting, but it's bittersweet to leave family that you cannot easily visit....

Hey Gonzo. I don't feel that this song is as engaging as the others that you have posted before. The choice of notes, to me, doesn't reflect the story that you based it on - well maybe the last part. Sorry man. I'm still a fan though. :D

 too "intense"... obviously people don't listen to enough Zappa :D

.....

If it's not a Mark IV or Rectifier doing a cover no one will comment. Shame.

TREM-
don't feel dis-engaged, dude!
LOL
hey, it's cool.

not every song is going to appeal to everyone all the same....
luckily, i've had a lot of good feedback from other folks on this song, to feel like it's worth keeping out there...
thanks for listening!

Metalmatt-

hey gonzo;

did you take down that song? i dug the first version and went to check out the 2nd (or part 2 or whatever) and only found the acoustic song. which is a good song and well recorded in its own right, though nary a mesa was to be found! 8)

and i agree with MetalMatt, your doing some cool stuff! keep it up.

hey lyman!

yeah, sorry about that, i took it down..

i figured after more than 2 weeks posted, and only 2 reviews, i outta can it.

if you'd like, i'd be happy to email you a 'yousendit' link, so you can download an even newer version.....

the acoustic song, i might try cranking into a full blown band version, but that depends on whether my drummer/collaborator coughs up the goods!
LOL
