I just picked up a Boss super overdrive and when I engage the pedal I get alot of feedback and hiss when I am not playing...any suggestions on how to remove this...I am guessing a noise gate of some kind..but can I manage it without a gate?

Simplest way to solve your problem - take the pedal back. It's an F-50. You don't need a distortion pedal. The overdrive on the amp is monstrous. That's my $0.02. I think a lot of guys on here will agree.

Like the last guy said! I have ea F-50 and with my 85 Gibson SG its hot hot hot with feedback. Might want to turn you treble and gain down some

Amen on that! So much available gain on the F-50. Why "fake it" with a Boss pedal?

If you're looking for tips/tricks/etc for the F-50 check out this massive thread at Harmony Central. Tons of information available here, especially settings to try. 3829 posts and going strong! Good luck!

a lot of guys are advocates of using a TubeScreamer-esque pedal as a clean boost, as a means of tightening things up. I'd roll the gain back to next to nothing, and use the level to boost it.

+1 on that, as well. I use a Bad Monkey once in awhile as a boost with a little gain or I roll the bass back a little, highs up, level to taste and gain up just a notch to tighten the F-50. Works like a charm.
