Starting a new thread for this as i now have another problem. After quickly blowing the speakers in my new to me ampeg 4x12, a friend just gave me an old POS homemade cab that's loaded with celestion g12k-85's @ 8 ohms.. I swapped them into the ampeg and began trying to wire them up and things started getting wierd. Hoping someone who know more about elctronics then i do can point out something i may be missing. The ampeg had 4 16 ohm speakers wired in 2 sets of 2 parallel. These were then wired through a switch and little printed circuit board that allowed switching between 4 ohms and 16 ohms and also allowed stereo output. Now testing the speakers they read sixteen ohms, and testing at the input jack they read 4 or 16 depending on where the switch was (as they should). When i put the 8 ohm celestions in i figured if i wired them the same way i should get 2 ohms and 8 ohms. However, when i test at the input they are giving me crazy readings like 3.2 and 12.4. WTF??!!! Any help would be most appreciated as now i'm down until i get this figured out. Perhaps someone knows of a better board to go to and ask. thanks again, as always...

A speaker rated at 8 ohms can be anywhere between 5 and 8 ohms. The 8 ohm rating is the *max* ohm resistance the speaker is rated for. You will rarely find a speaker with *exactly* 8 or 4 or 16 ohms.

With your digital multimeter, you are just getting a really accurate ohms reading. Don't sweat it. Just plug in and play.
