I've always thought that it's not so much that NOS tubes sound "good", it's that new-production ones sound bad - they all sound muddy, fuzzy, indistinct, harsh or noisy to one extent or another... It's like the difference between a plywood acoustic guitar and a solid wood one.

Well put. I totally agree. The NOS aren't "Wow it's like a whole new amp" kind of sound, but just even-keeled and very pleasant sounding.

And I am going to stick with new production power tubes due to cost and supply of the NOS stuff.

I see you have a NOS in the V5. This isnt causing probalems? I tried it once in a REV G and it didnt work out to well. Maybe it was the particular tube i was using. Ill have to give V5 another shot some day.

Why would it?

IDK. I just had a bad experiance the one time I tried it in V5. The tube worked fine in other positions. Didnt know it the amp was sensative in that position.
