Hello, I have a quick question my friend is asking me and, i was unsure so. i figured i would sign up ( Hello! btw ) and start posting on the Boogie Boards.

The question is

My friend has a Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier and, he wants to know if it can damage the amp / tubes if he has the amp sitting on the side, next to his cabinet. I told him i was unsure, and not to do it till we found out, but i was concerned about the tubes heating up. If heat rises (lol) won't the tube that's higher up get more heat than the bottom one? and, could this hurt it? or make it wear out faster?

Pre-Thanks to anyone to helps!

also I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this type of question. if not i am sorry and, I apologize to any mods.

I've done it before without any issues. If it's that much of a concern, look into getting a small fan like those found in the Mark series.

You should be just fine! I can't imagine it would do any kind of damage, and if you're worried, take a look at the back of the amp every once in a while. If nothing has happened so far with it, there's nothing to worry about.

You could have some issues with the tubes. Tubes like to be oriented vertically (either up or down). On the side, you can have issues with filament sag. One orientation is preferable (I think with the grid oriented vertically, but I'm not sure). Not sure how they are arranged in the mesa. You might be o.k. either way, but if you start shorting tubes, you may need to stop.
