Ok, i am getting an overdrive maybe tomorrow, and I have narrowed it down to 3, but feel free to chime in. I have a 3 channel DR and what I want the pedal to do is warm up the cleans and tighten the sound some. I also want it to push my amp hard at lower volumes when I am on the modern setting.

The 3 I am thinking about are

Fulltone OCD
Maxon 808
MXR ZW44

What would you recommend based on what I am looking for. You don't have to stick to what I listed.

+1 on the Maxon. While I have a BB Pre amp and Ac Booster, I did get to use my friends stash of screamers, and they seem to do just the trick with the dual. I think with the OCD you would be happy as well, but on channel 3 Modern I had to keep the gain just about off to keep the amp from sounding like something from a 60's biker movie soundtrack, and the ZW is way over priced for what you get. Just an opinion. Peace.

I would go for the maxon od 808. it is cheaper and do the job superb.
I bought the maxon od 808 after hours of testing different od s and I like it alot. but test all kinds of od s.

Well the selection of pedals was not good. So i ended up with a ts9dx. I can try it for 30 days. If I don't like it, it goes back.

yeah man around me i cant find an ocd or od808 anywhere and thats including some of the boutique shops that usually have it all.... i got to try the ocd in cali on a business trip with a roadster and i really dug it..... from all the od threads around here it seems the maxon od808 and the ocd get the job done really well.... its kind of funny to me how some od's work better than others with certain amps.... my buddy swears by his keeley modded ts9 and it sounds great with his vht but it sounds like *** with my roadster..... i just find thta odd

Ok, so I tried the TS9DX last night. what a piece of junk. it took my great tone and made it sound like I was playing through a solid state amp. Very thin, very tinny, and very solid state sounding. Terrrible pedal. Can't get it back fast enough.

I did not notice if you have an EQ pedal - but you should look into it. I have the Ibanez TS-808 reissue plus the MXR Kerry King 10-Band EQ pedal. You should consider an EQ if you don't have one - it will greatly enhance the OD pedal you choose. Search the effects forum - there are alot of great posts on OD pedals.

hi Sentinelsf,

How much different is the kerry king eq different from the normal 10 band eq??

I think it's bascially the same as the regular MXR-10 Band EQ pedal - the main difference is the KKR can boost 2 amps. The regular pedal only handles one amp/output. The regular pedal is adequate for most purposes. I got the KKR because my local Guitar Center store gave me a nice discount when I ordered it.

+1 on the eq pedal. I favor a Boss SD-1 in front of my DR instead of a TS variant. I can't stand that mid notch a TS has.

I have an EQ in the loop, I am just going to stick with that and call it done!

+1! Keeley SD-1 FTW! I sold my EQ because I found I didn't need it for my RoV since getting the SD-1. It tightens, saturates, and adds sustain. All good things. I've been getting some SICK tones lately using the SD-1 followed by a BOSS CS-3 (Monte Allums Opto Plus mod not the worthless stock version!!) with the level cranked, tone at noon, attack dimed, and sustain at 9:00...

... have you thought of trying a boost?
I like the Burriss. There is even a model with a OD section built in like having two pedals in one. The plain boost (Boostier) is what I have and it does exactly for me what you describe.
