I'm beginning to think that my roadster is cursed. I just bought it. Two days ago, I blow a rectifier tube. Then today, when it has just been fixed, I am in mid jam and it just shuts down, and now it will not power up again. It would be to easy to just say it was the fuse, but all of my gear runs through a Furman power conditioner that would have stopped a power spike cold. if anyone knows what might have caused the breakdown, or offer insight into why my roadster is so prone to failure, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the advice about it coming loose. I can see almost no way the fuse could have blown because there is a power conditioner between it and the wall, could a short i the amp cause the fuse to go?

Why do you think a power conditioner will stop the fuse from blowing? The fuse in your Roadster is rated at 4 amps. If the power conditioner even has an over-current protection device it is most likely set at 15 amps. Which do you think is going to go first when there is a problem in the amp?

The number 1 cause of a blown fuse in a tube amp is a bad tube, most likely power or rectifier. Even if you do not use the rectifier tubes, a bad one in the amp will still blow fuses.

I purchased a used Roadster head from Ebay and it was shipped in
a roadcase with good packing around the case. On first use, there
were some bizzare electronic fizzes and pops as well as volume dropouts
in the 2 lead channels. After using it for a week and discovering new
problems on every occasion, I finally took it for servicing. Turns out
2 power tubes were shorting (tech suspected damage during shipping) and
output tranny was bad. Orig owner claims he never had a problem...
After servicing, runs like a champ. So far, so good..
