Hey all.
I’m a newbie here and need some advice. I play in the house band at a sketch comedy and rock & roll club. I’ve been using Line 6 gear for the past several years, using a combo with XLRs out to the snake. I want to try some different tones, so I’m in the process of dusting off my old “touring rig” which consists of a 2:90, a Triaxis, and a Mark IV combo. They haven’t been used in years (I know, I know), and I’m seeking suggestions on cabling and components. I need my rig to be versatile (shimmering cleans, blues grit with a bite, creamy overdrive, “rectifier” thick (or as close as I can come), and a screaming/singing lead tone and patches with various combinations of effects and I need to accomplish this at a relatively low stage volume (90 db of headroom if I’m lucky). Thus, I’m leaning toward using the Triaxis and picking up some sort of effects unit (something like a TC G-Force) and a MIDI controller on the floor.
Should I run the 2:90 with an attenuator or trade in for a 20/20?
Should I look for a partcular brand of tube?
When I used this rig, I was younger and a whole lot dumber. I messed with the presets for hours, but never experimented with EL84s in the 2:90.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. From what I've read, y'all know a lot more about these amps than I do.
