Hey!
I've came across the need for a bigger cab, I didn't want to buy a 412 as it is so difficult to carry. And was thinking of a 212 vert.
Now i have this old metal grille 212 for a sweet price. With Black Shadow bottom v30 up (it might be the other way round). The tolex is a but screwed but it is working just fine.
What is the difference between this cab and the newer one 212 vert? Are the dimensions the same? One is top open and thiele bottom and the new one is completely closed back with both v30s...

Any ideas??

It looks to me like you've answered your own questions. Having said that, I'm not really sure what you need from us. :) I think the older cab would be a nice configuration to compliment your cleans but I can totally see a bit of a tradeoff when using distortion with an open/closed back cab. Having said that, obviously you wouldn't have as much thump as closed back cab so I'd imagine your tone overall may be a bit more open, airy, and not as thick. Do you have the opportunity to try the older 2x12? If so, do it and see what you think.....

My question lies in its size. And the speakers.
Everywhere I read that these cabs are better than the newer. Even the 412s... And the top back can be closed!!! With the cab completely closed there is no problem with the top back... I play regularly on an F-100 combo open back and the tone destroys most amps...
But the deal is an excellent one so, i'm going forward! Already sold my 112 Engl to help with the cash...

There will be a noticible difference. But two of the biggest difference are, the older mark cab will the upper and lower section is split so each is its own compartment. Second big difference will be that the old Mark cab, the speakers are front loaded, where on the newer rectifiers they are rear loaded.

There are plenty of disscusions on front loaded vs rear loaded, some people out there do not know what they are talking about, but in general.

Front load = you hear mostly speaker tone. Very little cab coloration, more Ice picky and less warmth. However it is tighter.

Rear load = a good one will give you that deep, warm woody 'knock' whilst still being tight and percussive.
