Ok, acoustics were run through the clean channel of my 3 channel Dual Recto and the electrics were done with the Maverick. Both were run through the thiele with EV in it and close mic'd with a sm57 and e609. Added a little flanger and reverb post. Let me know what you think

Great video man, it was a bit goofy, but that's fine

Nice singing too! Well done.

Thanks, I think it's a bit goofy as well. I wish I could sing like that, but that's why he's my singer, he's a hell of a guitarist and songwriter as well.

Pretty sweet... Dig the tune and like the idea of running the acoustic through the recto. I might have to give that a shot.

How do you like the Maverick? Picked up a recto a few months ago and dig the grit, but not the effects loop. Find myself going back to the mark iv more and more. Played a maverick 2x12 combo with EL34's at Real Guitars in SF and it sounded sweet....

Thanks. I think the clean channel on the Recto is underrated, and has a big full sound to it. The Maverick is a gem, it doesn't go into the modern mode territory, but it has plenty of gain for anything I do (including metal) and the el84's just chime beautifully. The F/X loop on the Maverick is parallel like the other DR's, but I prefer it to series loops, it takes a while to get use to it and learn how to use it properly, but once you have it down you don't sacrifice the amps tone when adding f/x to it. I like to use minimal f/x though, a little reverb or delay here and a little phase there is all I use.

toneaddictjon,

my band is recording soon and I've been looking at mics to get and I was thinking of getting the same mic setup you mentioned here in this thread. I've worked with both mics before but don't own them. It seemed like it would give a great sound.

What's your opinion on them together?

I think they work really well together. They are similar in a lot of ways, but each have their own voice. I've used them both by themselves and was never satisfied with the outcome, but together they really compliment each other. If I was gonna buy new today though I'd pick up a shure beta 57a for a little more than the 57. This going completely blind, as I've never used the beta57a, but I've used the beta 58a and it blows the regular 58 away as far as presence and depth of capturing vocals.

Thanks for the comments guys :D
I can't take a lot of the credit for the video or song, I did the engineering, production and arrangement, but JP wrote the song and played the main guitar parts, I just put a little color here and there. It's nice working with a good singer/songwriter/guitarist, I never have to worry about him bringing in material that I have to tear apart to make it sound good.

Rich, I'm glad it floored you and you enjoyed it.
