Good Day,

Have borrowed many a Mesa to record over the years but never really owned one as the high wattage amplifier has never played well in the live setting. Got the opportunity to get a Mini Rectifier. Some early thoughts is that for a low wattage amp it plays very nicely at either 10 or 25 watts. 10 watts from this amp is clearly louder than my 13 watt Fender Vaporizer, and louder than my 15 watt TS15.

So going to hang out here and see if I can learn anything.

Congrats! I've had my Mini Rec and matching 1x12 V30 cab/speaker for nearly 2 years now, and I love it. A few folks around here have them as well, so I'm sure whatever questions you may have, somebody will have an answer.

What speaker/cabinet are you using?

Here's a "secret sauce" tip: For killer OD - 10W, "clean", full on gain and master; yeah, just dime it. EQ knobs to taste (mine tend to not stray far from either side of noon). Suitable for almost anything but metal. Very uncompressed, unsaturated, dynamic and "open" sounding OD that responds well to to rolling the guitar volume (read: "cleans up nicely").

Sample settings:

treble @ 2 o'clock
mids @ 3 o'clock
bass @ 10 o'clock
presence @ 2 o'clock

Congrats on the new amp. You're going to love it. That setting KJ suggested works very well with solid body guitars as well as his Dot.

Here's one of my favs (tone controls vary depending on which guitar I'm using)

Vintage/ 10 watt mode
Gain 1:00
Treble 1:00
Mids 10:00
Bass 11:00
Presence - to taste, usually 11:00 or so
Volume - up enough to bring it on the tubes a bit, but trust me it doesn't have to be loud to sound great! 11:00 or so is NICE if you can get away with it at home.

That one works great with all three PRS's, my JP12, JS1000 etc.

Also note: the mids are broad, and Kiwi Joe uses a dot. He gets some sweet FAT jazzy tones! But don't be afraid to back that mids control off as low as 9:00 when trying to dial the sound you want. That mids control is POWERFUL!

Have fun!

Congrats and Im sure you will really enjoy the amp. As others have said, I owned mine since they released them and still impressed with how good it can sound at relatively low levels and yet how powerful it can sound in its sweet spot. Im also running into a 2x12 horizontal.

I find the mini much easier to dial in than the bigger/older 50w Rectoverb I first owned and EL84s are a steal compaired to 6L6s/EL34s.
