So I called to order a Mesa Express 5:50 from an online dealer. I was told that they can not order any more Express amps because Mesa is working on a replacement line for the Express amps. They don't know when they will unveil them, but that it should be soon.

Does anyone know if this is true and if so, should I wait around for the next line of Mesa amps rather than buy a 5:50?

Any "unveiling" would be done at the NAMM shows. The summer NAMM is July 12-14, the winter is January 17-20, 2013.

hehehe - I think "dealers" have got as much credibility as used car salesman, real estate agents, journalists and politicians.

Mesa don't make replacements - never have.
The Mark V is not a replacement for any of the previous Marks.
The Mini Rec is not a replacement for a Roadster.
Is the Trans Atlantic a replacement for a Vox AC30 ?

When first released some alleged "dealers" said the Express was a replacement for the F series - it certainly was not.
The Express amps are more similar to the Lonestars than the F series.
Why would Mesa make replacement amps.
Everything Mesa make is different.

I expect Mesa to continue to release new amps as normal and none will be a replacement for anything.
They'll all be new & different

It wont be a "enhanced" version....with some type of *classic* Mesa tonal shaping circuit..."PLUS", that kind of info never leaks...

Well I emailed Mesa and got a reply. Apparently there is something in the works that should be released in a few weeks. The Express amps are getting some tweaks and a couple new features according to the rep at Mesa. I guess it's leaked ;)

It looks like they addressed some of the shortcomings that led me to sell my 5:50!

Well I'm wrong  - and not surprised I'm wrong ......but surprised at Mesa Corp cause this is the first time they've done this with a product.

A 5:25 + and a 5:50 +

Here's the link to the 5:50+

The improvements all look good on the 5:50 but they didn't address the biggest issue which is having all 4 voices footswitchable

I disagree. They have done this before. Take the 22 and 22+ for instance. Mesa has made many replacements in the past.

I don't need all 4 modes to be footswitchable though I'd love for them to be assignable. I would've loved to have had the 4 modes assignable. I'd use the Clean mode on the green channel and assign the Crunch mode to the red channel.

I think it's cool what they did. I think a lot of folks are gonna dig that 15-watt setting as it was by far my favorite wattage on my TA-15 - for clean & distorted stuff.

This. I'd be in heaven if this were an option.

yeah well I'm probly wrong there too hehe.
And I agree the 5:50 never needed all 4 voices footswitchable.
Your assignable voices suggestion is a good idea too - never thought of that.

Not sure how much I'd use the added EQ controls on the Plus - the Controur dial was good enuf imo and I already have an MXR EQ pedal on my board.
I hope they also reduced the amp humm issue on the 5:25 - it was fairly noisy with the gain cranked

It's the 25 watt option on the 5:50 that I find interesting. The 50 watts isn't being hit hard enough for lower volume gigs and rehearsals, and the 5 watt is only good for late night jamming or recording, imho.

This is good:

1. Huge +1 on the GEQ ...Mesa should have never gotten rid of that feature and is one thing I rely on a lot (and really like about my DC5) for tone shaping. Folks who have not used older Boogies with the GEQ (I've never tried the Mk V but could only surmise the same) really don't know who much tonal versatility that 5-band adds; it's that dramatic, IMHO, and better than an outboard EQ pedal IMHO. And that it is alongside the Contour, and switchable, is icing ...niiiice!

2. And nice job with the two tubes in Class A. While I find somre great tones in the 5w mode, it is simply unusable in any gig situation, IME. Now with 15 Class-A watts on a 525, now there's a usable feature!
