The Jensen P12q8 makes the Fillmore 25 even more like a Deluxe Reverb. I personally like the high gain sound more now. After comparing the c90 sounds flat and not enough shimmering treble. The treble is more swishy with the alnico 40watt Jensen. I love this amp with any speaker in it. But the 40 watt speaker won’t be enough if you play with an extremely loud drummer(most?). For me it is the cats meow. Now I can turn the high gain volume up to 5 as opposed to the volume being on 2. The clean gets dirty when the volume and gain are almost full, me likey. I have done Gigs with different speakers installed in this unreal amp and it performed incredible. Just guitar, wah pedal and amp. I have either blackout preamps or EMG volume preamps in all guitars used on the Filmore 25. Lastly the chicken knobs are dangerous under the amp cover, the volume or any dial could be on full, and something leans against the amp the dial is flexed past its limit. The shape of the chicken knob cannot deflect against bumping. So I put round dials with white lines as the knobs. Looks way better for my tastes.
We did a Hendrix tribute night with my friends jazz band , and I can’t think of any other amp to do that gig. the Fillmore 25 can sound like it’s from the 50’s to the late 80’s. with my on board guitar preamps the high gain goes a lot further into the 90’s high gain. Oh whew ! got that out.
