Howdy,

New to the Mark V, but not to Boogie. I've had a TA-30 head, a mini-rec and a Express 5:25. I've had the MArk V for about 3 weeks now, and still trying to iron out quite a few kinks, and I was hoping for some input. So, how about this?

I'm running the head on a mesa rectifier horizontal 2x12 cabinet.

- There's 2 8 ohm outputs with "combo" in the middle. So is the top or bottom the "combo", and what's the difference?

- I know for the EQ to operate, the loop switch has to be on. I also found the "Send level" controls amp output when the loop is active. Is there a preferred way to run this? Right now, I have the send on full(~ 5 o'clock)

- I have not used the reverb much but when I tried it today, it was almost nothing an any channel. Granted, I'm used to the reverb on a fender deluxe reverb, but am I missing something? Does something have to be set a certain way for the reverb to be active?

Thanks in advance.

i have the mkV combo and the combo speaker itself being 8 ohms plugs into either the top or bottom 8ohm input.. there is no difference...you can use either...i also run a 2x12 horizontal and usually disconnect the combo speaker as not to rattle the tubes too much.....plug the 2x12 into 8ohm and if you are useing 2 8 ohm cabs they go into the 4 ohm as stated on the back speaker section
as for the EQ you do not have to have the loop active to switch on or off eq,,mine is always set to hard bypass....in each channel there is a mini toggle in the middle that says EQ,,with the toggle all the way down controls the footswitch....you can have the EQ on all the time or off alltogether....
hope this helps,,,this is a fantastic amp..have fun!!
the reverb usually sounds best on the clean channel...there is a reverb knob on the back to increase or decrease for chan 1,2 and 3
oh and always read the manual!

Thanks much!

I did read the manual, and that's a chore too..... And sorry, I misspoke on the EQ part. I meant the output and solo dial require the loop to be on.

Still on the reverb.... I was using the dials in the back, and still have almost nothing, even going the full dial sweep. Are there certain modes or setting in which the reverb doesn't work? And how much do you get when its full on?

Thanks again.

oops yes the loop is on to control the master and solo....and yes that manual is a good long read!
for the reverb,,,,im sure you already tried how it sounds in channel 1 clean all the way dialed to the max....so there may be a problem there somewhere..the reverb should work to some degree on all modes..
on my amp the reverb sounds great on chan.1,,,,you may want to change the tube that controls the reverb that might be the culprit or simply is not seated properly,,,check them all..check the reverb tank to be sure the springs are all connected and not loose..
did you buy the head used or new

I got it new, but I didn't hear the reverb in the store, so I don't have a comparison point.

For the loop, I was just curious on the send dial, since it almost acts like another master volume, if it was best to just run it full up when all you have the loop on for is just the front volume controls.

Sounds like I'll have to listen to another head and see if I have a reverb problem. I bought it new, so getting it checked is no problem. I was hoping to find a you tube clip on the reverb, but it's not jumping out at me.

Thanks,

The Manual (page 41) goes over the Reverb.

"There is slightly less Reverb effect available in a totally wet mix setting (5:30) in Channel 2 than is available in Channels 1 and 3. This is due to the architecture of the Channel and the signal path of the Modes. Most likely you will not ?nd this an inconvenience as Channel 2 is most often con?gured for overdriven rhythm parts and high gain lead work in the MARK I mode. The only time you may ?nd that you have to run the Reverb control of Channel 2 much higher than those of the other Channels is in the MARK I Mode for lower gain Blues styles.

Pushing volume using the Loop effects send isn't what it was designed for. It is to give you the ability to balance the input of the effects pedals you use, to allow you to adjust for a pedal the may need more or less input from the amp. Some pedals are very sensitive to input levels.

If you would like to have boost I suggest you use the provided boost. You can also put a volume pedal in the effects loop, I do this and it works very well. I actually use it to turn down the channel volume as I want the drive for a particular song as the lead needs to be fully saturated but behind the mix not in front.
