This is my first post here, so let me begin with a hello: "Hello."

Now, tubes:

I have an early 90's tverb head, and I have been bored with its tone for a while (had all mesa tubes). I really like using the rectifier setting, but it felt very flubby (especially since I like the feel of the spongy mode). I also like a lot of low end warmth, but as many of you know, turning the bass up just adds a lot of mud past noon. So, a full re-tube was in order. I live in Portland, so I was able to go the Bob's house (eurotube's home office) and talk with him directly. Previous to my visit, I had been e-mailing with him for a few days to get an idea of what tubes I was after exactly. this is the first thing that sets eurotubes apart from anywhere else: the customer service is totally impeccable. I have worked in many retail settings, and I have shopped in dozens of instrument stores, and I have never had such a tremendous experience with a salesman. He genuinely seemed interested in getting me the tone and feel I wanted.

I ended up getting the high-gain pre-amp set, coupled with the "Personal Fave" power set, which is made up of GZ34 rec tubes, a pair of 6v6s and a pairKT77s. I honestly can't think of anything to write that won't sound cliche; it literally feels like I have a new amp. I can now dime the bass and not have any mud! The gain is incredible! I have total note definition in spongy mode, and lead or rhythm high-gain work just jumps out at me. Even the clean sound is great, whether I have it in clean mode, or vintage mode and turn down my volume knob. I took my od808 out of the picture, because it was honestly getting in the way. granted, I am in the honeymoon phase right now...I will re-post in a week regardless, but I have none of the butterflies in my stomach that i usually get with new gear. This was the right purchase.

(Note: Obviously, I am talking about "my" ideal tone. I am sure there are people that would hate to play my set-up...I realize there is no "one-size-fits-all" rig.)
