Just got a DC5 head yesterday. In the past, I've owned a Rectoverb combe, Lonestar Special combo, and an F30 combo. This my first DC and my first Boogie head.
I love the clean channel and the versatility of the pull boost feature-great gritty blues sound. The only issue I'm having is getting an 80's hard rock sound out of it. Maybe this amp isn't designed for that, but I would love to be able to dial it in. Any suggestions?
Also, I was told that the Dc5 is basically the Mark IV clean channel and the Dual Rectifier Orange channel, any truth to that?
Thanks!

Maybe Edward from the board will chime in. He told me that his DC amp lives in the 80's. I have a DC-10 head and went to jam with a band doing 80's rock/metal. The other guitarist had a Splawn with el34s and it sounded spot on for the 80's metal sound. To get close I've tried reducing my gain on the lead channel to 3-4 and crank the master and level at 5. Though it doesn't nail the sound it does make for a great rhythm tone that I don't think anyone in the audience would turn their nose up at. I then use an overdrive like the AC Plus to push channel 2 harder for singing solos. Sometimes I'll use my Fulltone Fulldrive 2 into the clean channel, again with masters cranked around 6. I'd turn them higher but I want to keep some decent clean tones when I need them. This is the closest marshally/80's sound I can get with my current equipment.

You might ask, are my ears bleeding? I use an attenuator for modest volume reduction. Not much, just enough that I don't overpower the P.A. and assault those sitting in front of me.

According to the 1995 catalog it says:
Dual Caliber architecture includes two completely separate preamps incorporating a rhythem channel from the Mark IV and a high gain channel from the mighty Rectifier. ..."
