 Maybe i should have bought pick ups first? How can i start on my way to some decent tone with this bad mama? Is it possible to get SRV/Rory Gallagher type tones with the solo 50? What would y'all think would be a first step towards a Hard Rock/Hard Blues/Light Metal Set up?
I am impressed by the knowledge and experience in this forum, and Grateful for any assistance anyone might offer. My Strat has a 'Lil 59 in the bridge and "silent" Dimarzio's in Mid and Neck. No effects to speak of. Help?

Hello,

The Solo 50 and the Rectoverb are the same amps, the only difference is the reverb. There's 2 version of both amps, Series 1 and Series 2. I think it's written on the back if it's a series 2, or you can look at the switch on the drive channel, if it's a 2 position switch (vintage and modern) it's the Series 1. If there's 3 position (Raw - vintage - modern) it's Series 2 (I don't think there a really big difference between the two... For the tone you are lookink for, don't turn the gain over 1 o'clock (or 6 if you prefer). And for a classic or blues sound the lil'59 is great for a nice warm and creamy tone, with some extra kick compared to a Strat single coil. That's a "single coil size" mini humbucker that is voiced to sound like the old Gibson PAF used in Les Paul from 1957-60, it should be perfect for your style.

Here's some clip of a Rectoverb Series II, I think it will give you an idea of the bluesy rock tone you can get with the amp :

Man.

My Wife never says sh!t like that. all "single coil" this and Creamy tone" that.

I'm in love with that chick one post up!

not sure about your amp probs. I gots me a LoneStar Clasic, and man let me tell you it does SRV/Rory like no one buisness. sounds like you might be into an amp like that!

Look into them!

Hell, my wife is the one that got me into boogies about 15 years ago...said my Marshall JCM800 sounded like "harsh brittle crap" (or something to that effect).
That's when she said try boogie, they sounded better to her on records(cd's). So I did, never looked back.
Also the reason I don't have any stock pickups in my instruments, not bad for a girl who didn't know what a les paul was the year before I met her.
Does V2 of the Rectoverb have "smoother" clean than the V1's?

I get big, fat strat tones out of my series 1 ROV. You need pickups that are reasonably hot. Vintage style pickups will not sound good in a Boogie. My Tom Anderson Drop Top has H2+ & SA12 pickups in it and it just sings with the ROV.

Try some pedals too if you have some laying around. Your amp should give up some great blues tones. :D
