I know there are Mark V owners that do not have any issues with running these Boss pedals in the FX loop but I do. No matter how I would tweak the amp and pedals, I would get a clipping sound. After talking with Mesa and some other folks on this board, I need to go with pedals that are more suited for line level instead of instrument level. I do not want to pay thousands for effects as I don't play out that often and don't have the cash. So far, the delay that interests me most is the TC Nova Repeater. I've yet to find a chorus I am interested in. I don't think I want a rack unit as I would have to have another big pedal on the floor to switch effects but I haven't ruled it out. Would a Mrk V owner please offer some advice? THX.

I've run a EHX Stereo Memory Man w/Hazarai and currently run a Hardwire DL-8 for delay. The former
is a little better in the loop while the latter, I found, is good in front or in the loop. The SMMH is a
bit much if you're not doing a lot with delay, which is my case now. The DL-8 is a rather simple
delay that sounds great IMO. I had a Boss DD-5 for the longest time too which I thought was
great but I sold it well before I got a MV.

For chorus, I had never needed to replace or thought about replacing my EHX Small Clone. I loved
the sound from day one but it ain't for everyone.

Good luck!

Although I personally run a TC1210 chorus in the loop, I´ve tried my old Boss CE2 in the loop and it works just fine (I think the trick is to run the channel masters low, so you don´t overload the input of the effects).

I use an MXR Stereo Chorus and TC Electronic Nova Delay in the loop. The MXR is great, IMO. I like it much more even than the Maxon CS-550 I had before it.

I have the TC nova delay in the loop and the MXR Black Label Chorus in front of the amp. I'm a fan of both.

Can you tell me more?

I assumed that the Send Level knob would get around problems like that. And I wasn't aware that there were different types of pedals. I thought they were more or less interchangeable. Is that not true?

I'm probably not the one to give the best answer to this but Marcus Daniel with Mesa said that the Mark V's FX loop was built to be used for more high quality line level type processors in it. I take it he meant rack processors and pedals with a line level jack or switch. Boss pedals for instance, are more for instrument levels, or used between the guitar and the input jack on the front of the amp. Once again, there are folks whose Boss or other pedals work fine in the loop and also my Boss pedals seemed to work fine the loop of my Lonestar. Maybe someone can shed more light on this for you. Like the Mark V Owner's Manual says: "We strongly suggest taking your amplifier and trying any processor before buying it to make sure it is compatible with the MARK V. Normally, the more professional series lines of most companies building outboard gear work well. However we have seen even so called pro stuff produce less than satisfactory results in terms of tonal thievery."

I run a Boss GE-7 EQ pedal, Boss RV-5 reverb pedal and an old Ibanez SC-10 chorus through the effects loop and they all work great. I haven't had any problems at all. In front of the amp I have a crybaby, Line 6 Constrictor and an OCD.

As a general rule, Run your instrument level pedals in the front end...and your line level fx in the loop. I run all my boss pedals that way (in front,) and a (don't laugh) digitech 100 in the loop for presets. (delay 3 kinds, swell , some crazy patches I made up etc.) works and sounds great. You need an output or input volume control on your FX for the Mesa loops to work properly. Hope that helps.

I use thje Nova Repeater in the loop (with a compressor pedal too) and it works great. The price on the Nova is really good for the quality.
I have a Line 6 DM-4 in FRONT of the amp for a few sounds.

Not really different types of pedals, but some have more headroom than others. My experience with a Boss DD-3 was not so great, in the loops of both my Roadster and Mark V it would clip and distort. Switched to a Time Factor and the problem went away.
