Hey guys,

I'm new to the whole jargon about the pre-amp tube positions. If I'm looking at the BACK of my amp, is V1 the left-most socket or the rightmost socket (or neither)?

Thanks,
Andrew

V1 is closest to the input jack, and normally there will be a wire running straight from the jack to the cathode (maybe with a couple components wired at the jack)

V1 is the only one that will always be this way. The last tube (or the preamp tube closest to the power tubes) in a push-pull amp (your Dual, for instance) will be the phase inverter.

You can't really always say V5 is the phase inverter though, as some amps won't have five preamp tubes. My Mark III only has four, a Deluxe Reverb has six.
