Yes it is true; since I have had my T-verb head with a 2x12 Recto cabinet, my girlfriend gets seriously jealous of the amount of time I spend with my amp.
Anyway, I have had the amp for about 6 weeks now, finally starting to get her dialed in just about right but I have a few questions..
First, on the RED channel, if I switch from the Modern High gain to the Blues setting, it is WAAAYYY louder on the BLUES setting than it is on the High Gain..is this normal? I would assume that the Modern High Gain, rip your face off metal channel would be the louder of the two. Am I mistaken about this?
Also, the Effects loop and the Channel Cloning are confusing as hell to me. Honestly, the effects loop is downright intimidating. The effects that I have are minimal; I use a Morley Bad Horsie wah, a Boss tuner, a boss delay, a Boss Metal Zone distortion and a boss EQ.. The Morley pretty much will not work with the effects loop engaged because it cuts off and on so much that the amp doesnt like switching between the loop and the frontside. Also, the Metal Zone pedal just makes a horrible squealing noise at any volume when it is engaged on the amp, whether it is in the effects loops or not, regardless of the level settings on the pedal.
Lastly, my previous amp was a Peavey Valve King 1x12 combo, that really sounded phenomenal. The greatest feature on that amp was a footswitch controlled gain/volume boost that i could kick in for leads. Is there a simple effects pedal that would work as a gain/volume booster without affecting the tone?
Any suggestions would be greatly apprectiated..thanks!

Your girl has every right to be jealous

Anyway all the only effect that will sound good in an effects loop will be time based effects (reverbs, delays, chorus) and eqs. Never.. NEVER put an OD or Distortion in your loop as it will sound like a$$. Also make sure you get your levels right with anything you put in the loop.. thats the key to making everything sound good. Do this by setting the loop send level to where when you engage the fx loop you dont get a volume drop or significant boost... then adjust the level and mix on the pedals themselves to your liking.

As far as a boost i would say go for either a clean boost (keeley katana, barber launch pad) or an OD setup like a clean boost (Fulltone OCD, Maxon OD808). What the effect of both have on your amp is they provide a slight boost, but add more compression and in most cases with an OD additional mids which end up tightening things up and adding complex harmonics which can make your amp sing. I use my OCD and various clean boosts for getting tons of tones both rhythms and leads. Also the Xotic BB Preamp is a killer pedal. You could also go with a twin boost/od pedal that provides both for different appilcations. A lot of recto guys will leave the OD at all times for rhythm work and then throw the boost ontop of that for a lead... with the right settings its lead heaven.

Tell her if she screams as good as the Tremoverb when you stick your Jack into her, you'll pay her more attention

Oh good lord people lets be adults here, huh?

What about playing with her knobs?

If she has knobs, it's not a "her"...

I've always said a woman is like a Road King.

You'll spend hours working the front try to make it scream just right, then you gotta go around the back and try from that angle for a while, and then you've gotta go back to the front and finish the job

Cool thanks for the input, and the suggestive humor..it cracks me up!
What about the RED channel issues I am having? Does anyone know anything about this or have a similar experience (that the BLUES setting is way louder than the Modern High Gain)

I have a tremoverb that does the same thing with the modern high gain and blues modes. Blues is quite a bit louder. I think with channel cloning, if you set red to vintage it reverses it. Vintage high gain becomes much louder than blues (it's been a while since I did this so I don't remember exactly). I've played a few different tremoverbs and they all did this. It has something to do with the circuit reconfig that happens between modes. Not to sure on technically why, but it is normal.

Dude, I don't think you need that Metal Zone anymore. An OD would be the way to go. I love my Fulltone. As was discussed, only modulation/time based effects in the effects loop. Use the Wah, distortion, OD etc out in front of the amp. Anywho, congrats, you have a "fire breathing dragon" of an amp.

Welcome to the forum.

"....about 6 weeks now, finally starting to get her dialed in just about right but I have a few questions.."

Women are very complex. I have had one around for 20 years and have no idea how to control her ? .... To be honest I gave up years ago.

I would skip the MZ and put the tuner and then wa into the front of the amp. Then put the EQ followed by the Delay in the loop. If I did use the MZ it would be after the wa into the input.

To be honest it is not a bad idea to spend time with the amp with no effects at all. Then just add one at a time so you know how that piece works with the amp. ...... But most of us do not do that.

Did you see this .....

http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Tremoverb.pdf

This should help.

Thanks for all the great info guys..Yes I read the manual online every night while I was waiting for it to be shipped out.
Also, I don't use the MZ distortion; the distortion on the amp blows that away.
Just out of curiosity, I think I got a killer deal on the amp..what do you guys think? I paid only $850 for the head and the only thing wrong with it was the light bulb needed to be replaced on the "on" switch and I replaced the POT on the reverb on the Red channel. I paid $500.00 for an absolutely immaculate 2x12 Recto Cab that just smokes. So all in all i have $1350.00 wrapped up in it..is that a pretty good deal?

Yes indeed women are like our boogies.

When my friend asked me "why did you sell the Mark IV for the Roadster?"

I said ya know it's just like dating a hot broad.... no matter how hot she is, and no matter how many people wanna bang her, she may just not be right for you.
