So, I just got a used DC-5 and I'm basically recreating my old setup. I bought a Digitech RP350 and I must say, not that impressed. It sounds pretty good for recording into my powerbook, but I can't seem to find the right spot for it with my amp. If I put it before the amp, I get a TON of extra noise, if I put it in the fx loop, I get that blanket-over-my-amp type of thing going on and I swear I can hear it almost ducking out sometimes. If anyone has suggestions for use with this, let me know.
Anyway, I'm considering returning it because I really care about tone quality. I used to have an Alesis nanocompressor and an ART Tube EQ and those were my only effects, and they did a good job. I could probably buy them both on ebay for $100 bucks total and money is starting to get scarce after the amp, my new Schecter and the Digitech. I'd like to keep the RP350 around since it can do so much and works as a great recording interface, but I'm not going to buy all new effects for the amp.
Also, is excessive noise a signal that tubes are on their way out?
