hello everyone . . .

my 20/20 arrived - i placed in in my rack, powered it up, plugged everything in and noticed there was no sound whatsoever!!

i even tried plugging my guitar directly into the input on the back, still nothing. then noticed that the far left el84 tube was not lit, as well as one of the 12AX7's.???

i replaced them with other same tubes, and they still didnt light

i also noticed a burning smell almost imediately after i powered up the amp ? ? ?
it lasted for a few minutes. i then decided to remove the amp from my rack and noticed there was a rattling sound coming from inside the amp, so i removed the top cover and found 2 little resisters rolling around loose, and they were black around the middle and swollen out in the middle.

anyone know what might have happened here??

sounds like the resisters blew up or something. i cant really see where on the board they came off from or if they came off since i got the amp or what.

this really sucks as i didnt even get to hear the amp!! i bought it used on ebay snd the seller is insisting it was working when he shipped it??

could those 2 little resisters coming off cause the 2 tubes to not light???

i wonder if this is something i may be able do fix myself (with a little direction)???

or would i just ship the darn thing off to mesa??

thanks

chad

I don't suggest you try to fix it yourself because you will probably cause more harm than good. It sounds like the power tubes might have a problem and possibly caused the issues you described. I am totally guessing and so will anyone else that will be replying so please don't take any reply seriously. The only way to diagnose your amp is to get it on a bench and have a pro do the repairs properly.

Instead of sending it off to Mesa you probably should seek out a local tech because your amp is very simple, electronically speaking, and will be easy to fix for anyone that knows tube amps.

thanks greg

Was this a brand new amp or one that you bought from somewhere (i.e. EBAY, etc.)?

I would find it very odd that the amp was DOA from Mesa (if it was a new amp).
