I just picked up my old MKIIB off of the guy i sold it to back in the 80's. Ihave a '81 MKIIB non graphic/non reverb 60 watt combo. When I bought it (again) it had Groove Tubes in it. I never cared for Groove Tubes so I swapped them out with a set of JJ's that I had laying around. DRASTIC improvement over the GT's.
Question; what's your favorite 6L6 in this amp and why?

I just got a MK2 100 watt 1x15", it came w/original Sylvania/Boogie tubes in very good shape.
They sound great, but eventually I'll need to replace them as well. It seems as though the consensus is Winged =C= is the most prefered, followed by JJ, TAD, EH
I notice a lot of people always say what an improvement their new brand makes in tone. But
is it just that the tubes that they're replacing are just old and worn. I wish I could try a
all of these tubes side by side, or at least maybe someone here could do a blind test.
if I hit the lottery it would be on one of my to do lists! :D :D :D

I like the old Winged C, but I honestly can only hear the difference in my bedroom. In a gig I don't really hear something as drastic as say a speaker change or different cab.

So I've been reading alot of different threads here, The Gear Page forums, harmony-central, Tube Depot, Dougs Tubes, KCA Tubes, etc. about different brands of 6L6GC tubes.
I'm not sure how they relate directly to a Mesa Mk2, but the consensus seems to favor the older
SED Winged=C= brand, followed closely by TAD 6L6GC short bottle variety, then Tung Sol brand
and lastly JJ and Svetlana EH brands.
It starts to get confusing because of all the variables, such as different amps , speakers, different runs of tubes and finally different sets of ears. But there seems to be a consensus that the Winged C's are the most durable and best? build quality. Boy I'm not sure after reading all the info if they're worth the extra $ or not. Hope some more MK2 along w/ other mesas will chime in here as well! :D :D :D
