MK IV... Dual effects loop

I'm trying to understand the manual when it explains about normal and other settings for the loop. Does it really have 2 seperate loops? I think not. Can anyone explain to me what that is referring to?

I have an "a" version. It has a normal loop that is on all the time. And it has an assignable loop that you can assign to like say R2 and Lead and it automatically comes on with the R2 or Lead footswitch. I don't have anything in my Normal loop right now but I do have a delay in the switchable loop that comes on with the Lead footswitch button. Also, you can assign it to R2 and Lead. I'm pretty sure the "b" version MKIV's can do this to. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in if I am wrong. Hope this helps!
