What have I done to my son's newly-aquired Mk III? I suggested I replace the filter caps as they were original (1986) & succesfully did the same on his Studio 22 a few months ago. Seemed to go smoothly, used F&T & Atom Sprague of the correct value.
After a few minutes of playing (amp sounded fine + a little louder than before) a few popping sounds & then smoke from the area of the filter choke transformer (got pretty hot to touch). Also has new Sovtek 6L6 tubes - supposedly matched & equivalent to M/B yellows. Any ideas where I may have gone wrong?

Since the choke got hot I would have to assume there is a problem with the screen supply capswhich would be the cap after the choke.Make sure you had this and all the caps down the line oriented correctly, and nothing on the + side touching ground. The choke got hot because something past it was drawing too much current thru it.
