Hey guys,

I just wondered, I'm picking up my mini rec this weekend and was tempted to go for one of the cabs. Is there any difference between the straight or slanted cab at all?

Cheers

Paul

construction wise, other than the angle they are built using the same hardware.

One thing to consider is the 1x12 have not been getting the best reviews on this site. for that reason, I opted for the 2x12 recto.

Tone wise, the straight cab should have fuller-tighter low end, where the slanted is designed to project towards your ears - so you should hear more mid range tones.

If you are going to be raising the cab on a stand or something then I would say go with the straight. Tone always comes down to personal taste, so make sure to do your research before choosing.

I really didn't like the MR cabs. They feel cheap and sound thin. Even the recto 1x12, which is built li.ke a tank, lacked low end. I'm much happier with a 2x12.

The mini cabs sound very boxy to me. Like the others have said, I'd avoid them if tone is the top priority.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a 1x12 I use with my mark v and also a 2x12 I've had for ages. So I'm pretty sure I won't need one. But the mini slanted does look kinda of cool. So I', thinking I might end up getting one.

Love my mini slanted. Quality is the same high quality as any other mesa cabs I own or have owned, which includes other 1x12s, the recto 2x12 and 4x12.

It is boxy sounding, but that's the nature of small closed-back cabs. Since I'm only really using mine at home, I traded down from a 4x12 and don't miss it at all.

It's lightweight and sounds killer for what it is. Comparing directly to a 2x12 or 4x12 yes, it will usually come up short. But that's the compromise you make to go down in size/weight. I love that when I do take the cab anywhere, the whole rig is an easy one-handed carry. Minirec in the bag over the shoulder, and cab in one hand. Guitar in the other hand. It's been a long while since I've had a whole rig I could carry in one trip!

my 112 sounded pretty big and lots of low end at my girl friends house, not as much at my house

If you are using it mic'ed up, the 112 will do just fine, I don't think strait vs. slanted makes much difference, (mine is slanted and I love it.) If you are not using it mic'ed up often, I would recommend at least a 2x12. FWIW, the slanted 1x12 looks killer.
