Im loving my mini rec, but I noticed I dont get a nice punch from my muted notes from Open Low E to A flat. From A on it sounds amazing. Is this something I need to tweak EQ wise or is it a EL84 vs 6l6 issue or is it the Stock EL84 just lacking.

my EQ is Gain 2ish, treble 1, mid 10, bass 12, Presence 10. (o'clock)

Any other mini rec owners experiencing this?

I had a similar issue. When I got the amp I tried to run it like a practice amp, which it is not. At low volume, it sounded anemic, so I cranked the bass to compensate. Horrible.

The MR is a gigging amp, not a practice amp. You have to move some air to get the punch. Turn the Master up and the Bass down. Less is more with the Bass control.

Try the sample setting #6 "Blistering Lead". That is really punchy with some volume behind it. I'm getting lots of punch down to low B.

I had a feeling that may be my issue. Ive been looking into attenuators the past couple weeks. I really think the mini could benefit from one for lower volume playing.

I think that a power attenuator would sound very much like turning down the Master. You really need to move some air - it's a combination of mechanical speaker effects and perception in the Human ear.

Try sending your family to the park when you play

I run a les paul at gain at 2 or 3 o clock, treb at 2 o clock bass at 10 o clock presence at 10 o clock on modern I get great thick tone!!! what guitar are you using? I have JJ power tubes, has more low end and chime. V1 goldlion, v2 nos sylvania, 3 and 4 penta mullard reissue, v5 EI old stock. 12 gauge speaker cable. On modern you can only crank the master at 9 or 10 o clock for best tones, vintage can going higher with upping the bass and treble. using stock 112 cab

keep the loops engaged, mine sounds great at bed room, using all top notch mogami cables. Stay at 10 watt for low volume playing(bed room) try bass at 1 or 2 o clock, prb your guitar my SG isnt as thick by a long shot compared to a gibson les paul, strats wont be as thick sounding.

+1

A power attenuator is not meant to let you crank an amp and have a bedroom volume, it's meant to crank the **** out of an amp and avoid killing someone and demolishing an house having a fair lower volume than it would be supposed to be. 'till you make the speakers move enough you wont have a thick an full sound. With an attenuator you can crank a 100w amp and reduce the volume to near nothing but 'till you don't make the speakers "move some air" you wont feel the tone the amp's producing.

One thing I have done in the past is to build a baffle. Make a box or frame with 5 solid sides. The 6th side should be a little larger than the speaker cabinet. Fill it with fiberglass insulation or other acoustic-absorbent material, and cover the open side with thin cloth or burlap.

Put the box in front of your speakers. It will sound really muffled if you put it right up against the speaker cab, but if you back it off a bit you can balance the volume with the muffled-ness.

thanks for all the advice from everyone.

Turns out at the low levels Im playing at If bass is at 12:00-1:00 im loosing that bass response from E to A flat (82-~100hz). Its easy to forget how responsive and forgiving the Mini's EQ is compared to the older rectos, even with the bass set to 4:00-5:00 the bass is nowhere near as flabby as my rectoverb was at a comparable volume. Thanks for that Ken361.

And Elvis, your right. I know that when the wife takes the kids out and I can actually get my master up a bit I will have to I will need to trim the bass.

BTW, i ordered the Blue LEDs... Im horrible!!!!

Good to hear man! today I was playing at home and notice how trebley it sounded, like dammm. So i have to turn the trb down and add bass when playing loud today! At my girls house I get tons of low and and have to back it off till 10 o clock, so im thinking her house is newer like 1974, dont play in the bacement but in bigger room on a cement slab with a much higher ceiling. Some house's with older wiring might be the issue. My house was built in 1960 prb a bacement thing, amp was be breaking in also now.

careful the wires for the LED can break of easy were it was soldered, mine did when i was tube rolling. Mesa sent me a free one with in a week. Blue looks slick:)

I've been trying to convince myself that I like the red, but I really do like the blue. I have actually bought equipment in the past based on the color of the light...

for $20 the LED, its not to bad. but I cant see myself paying the $99 for the custom diamond plate. I really dig the stock diamond plate.

I will make sure to post pics when it comes in and I get it installed.
