Just wondering if anyone would mind sharing their experience(s) with running a Mesa Recto Pre through the power amp of another amp or a separate power amp altogether as a rig? How close did the sound of the Recto Pre come to an actual Dual Recto amp? I’ve read that the Recto preamp is supposed to be a direct copy of the dual rectifier preamp so I would hope it’d sound pretty close—but then again, I’m also somewhat inexperienced in the world of preamps.

Btw...I have a Diezel VH4/Friedman Naked--both of which run EL-34's that I'd like to potentially try it with.

Thanks in advance!

I've run mine through my Roadster Combo's power section and it certainly sounds close to a Dual Rectifier but it does sound a little different. Whether thats good or bad is up to your ears though. The Rectifier Preamp seems to have a wider tonal spectrum than the Dual Rectifier as a Recording Preamp and as a "Real Amp." I can certainly say its easier to dial in the tone you want through a real power amp though! :D

I'm running the recto pre with a simul-class 2:90. IMHO, when the modern voicing on the recto pre and 2:90 are linked it sounds like a dual rec roadster, then stack the deep mode of the 2:90 on top of that and it's like adding a MarkV on top of it. The sound is incredible.
