hey guys i would like to ask the difference between the 2nd and 3rd channel? on the dual/triple rectifier...is it just the presence control? besides that are they identical?

So far as I know the only difference is the presence pot, but I've never actually A/B'd the two channels to directly compare the same settings.

Channel 2 is optimized for vintage high gain.

Channel 3 is optimized for modern high gain.

It's the reason for the different presence pot values.

I think the last time I was fiddling around with the second channel, I had the feeling the lower E String had a little bit more bite than on the third channel, strangely. Must check it again ...

Channel 2 has slightly more bass present in the signal as well as having a tad less midrange. I switched out the Presence pot in my Channel 3 and it's still not the same as Channel 2. I would call channel 2 a bit more 'woofy' for lack of a better description.

That is interesting. I find it to be a little opposite. Channel 2 to me is warmer, with more mids, and slightly less treble cut. Channel 3 is a little less rounded, and punchier. We used Ch 3 modern for rhythm and Ch 2 Vintage for leads on our new album. Worked really well for each sound accordingly. I use both channels live, depending on the song and how I want the attack to sound. I tend to use ch 2 in songs with solos. And I also have it set to where I can use Ch 2 on one head with Ch 3 on the other and vice versa, and it add a little different texture to the overall sound, blending punch and warmth together. Here is a video I just uploaded using my Flip HD going through all of the sounds I use on my Multi-Watts. Info on what is what will in on the YouTube post. WARNING: video is a bit on the loud side, so turn your speakers down a little.

Well my amp is the original 3 Channel and pretty far from stock as well. Probably has something to do with it. 8)

hmmm lets see if I can remember all of them.

-FJA Mods Standard Recto Mod for clarity and fizz removal and low end tightening

-push/pull gain boost on channels 2 &3

-Bias Mod

-Presence pot Mod on Channel 3

-NOS 12ax7's in V1 and V2

-GZ34 rectifier tubes

I think that's about all of them.

I know. I am nuts.

i argee with fluff and i have a non modded original 3ch. ch 2 def more meat and woof. Mesaengr412 that was an awesome vid!!

I agree with the Ch2 vintage for solos 100%! Its the best option on the rectifier for lead work imo! However i find myself that if you use modern mode on both these channels you can get each one to sound VERY close to the other. Ch2 will need the presence up quite high to get into the territory of Ch3's presence but it can be done. I remember it says that in the manual somewhere. I find Ch3 has the smallest amount more bass in the sound with the dials set the same on both channels.
